Open Source/ Freeware
Wading through the plethora of available software, one cannot but notice that some of the best things in life are free. Yes, free as in beer. As far as free as in speech, that remains to be seen.
Here is a short list of my favorites:
IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative FREEWARE (for non-commercial use) graphic viewer for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003.
VLC Media player is a bit nerdy, but you can drag and drop a zip file or other file that other players won’t touch. If you are a pro, well, the you already know about all the streaming functions, multi-platform compatibility etc.
The amazing Text Latvianizer is my own favorite, maybe because I wrote it, but mostly because it is the best way to write in Latvian using the Benjamin Franklin alphabet. Intrigued? Join the users group. Maybe the seven of you can get together and whoop it up someday.
WordPress is an amazingly useful blogging tool. I have tried some of the more popular web- services, but WP blows them all out of the water, partly due to the gurus at Dreamhost
that let you do a one-click install.
